When you have finished reading the book,  Wonder , it is impossible to stop thinking about what you have just read. You go through the book, over and over again, in your head. When you read this book, it’s like embarking on a wonderful journey that takes you on a roller coaster of emotions.

It is a book that really gives you a good feeling and that makes you think about life. In this article, we will give you some good reasons to read the book,  Wonder.

What is the book, Wonder , about?

August  (Aggie) is 10 years old, but he has not been to school like other children. He was born with a genetic abnormality and he has had over 27 surgeries on his face.

As a result, his face does not look “normal”. When the time comes for him to finally start school,  he knows he has to come face to face with the world, outside of his comfort zone and his dedicated family.

As a 10-year-old boy, August likes to do the usual things that other kids his age do. He likes ice cream and rides his bike. He plays ball and he has an Xbox. But, despite all his surgeries, he will never get to look normal.

Things are difficult for August, and also for his family. He has a very protective, older sister, Via, who gets angry when people stare at him and when his parents are overly expressive in their love for August. She can not help but discuss whether August should go to school, as well as to express her opinion about the situation.

When August starts school, he is very nervous. Not just for the same reasons as many other, new kids starting school. But, also because, he knows, he will not be able to walk down the aisle without everyone looking at him or being mean to him.

Reasons to read the book; Wonder

It is a truly fearless book and it is fun and engaging at the same time. If someone told you what the book was about before you read it, you would probably think it did not sound that interesting. You may not feel attracted to it, nor particularly excited about diving into a difficult topic that you do not really feel like thinking about.

But, it turns out to be essential reading,  thanks to the charm and warmth of its pages,  even in the most difficult and sad parts. Yes, August is someone who has an unusual syndrome, but one speaks warmly of him in just a few pages.

The sadness that the book causes in us is compensated by the love and kindness that seeps through the characters and events of the book. His way of appreciating the good things that surround him is remarkable.

The book,  Wonder , seems to have been written primarily for children, but, in reality, it is intended for all of us. It manages to cross all age groups without even trying. The book is fun to read, despite plenty of hard moments that will make us sad.

The most important thing is that at no time does August lose his funny, humorous sense in a story that is as unique as it is normal. It contains 400 pages, but it is divided into short chapters, making it easy to read.

What age group is the book for?

It can be read and enjoyed by children from the age of 9-10, but also by teenagers, and even adults. RJ Palacio  manages to create very incredible characters. Their comments are real, and their jokes and fights as well. It’s all we see in school at that age.

In the book,  Wonder , we find several narrators, such as his classmates, Summer or Jack, and his sister Olivia. It makes it easier to see how those around August understand that he is just a normal child.

The part of the story told by his sister, Via (Olivia), is particularly apt. She is able to capture how a teenager struggles  with the love she feels for her brother and the way she lives her daily life, as well as the people around her who do not give her much attention.
