The Umbilical Cord Contains The Secrets Of Life

The umbilical cord contains the secrets of life

The miracles of life are as wonderful as they are mysterious. Even today, with all the science and technology available, there are still secrets surrounding the evolution of man. The umbilical cord protects much of the secret formula in its stem cell-rich blood.

During pregnancy there is a string, of approx. 56 cm long, connecting mother and child. This goes from the baby’s tummy to the placenta. The main function is to provide the baby with nutrients and oxygen, from the placenta and transport the baby’s waste back to the placenta.

When the baby is in the womb, the umbilical cord is a part of their body, connected to the two arteries in the cord. One of these is to get the waste that the child produces while the other keeps their little body supplied with oxygen.

The umbilical cord is full of life

This long, usable strand also transmits antibodies. Near the end of pregnancy, the umbilical cord carries antibodies. Antibodies that the mother has developed throughout life through the placenta of the baby.

But there is more. The blood in the umbilical cord is rich in stem cells, known as the building blocks of life. D e can reproduce and create new cells. They can divide and make copies of themselves, colonize, integrate, and create new tissue.

Stem cells contain all the genetic information needed to form all the organs in the body. The umbilical cord contains millions of them. This string, which some parents keep as a souvenir after the baby is born, carries a large part of life’s secrets.

In fact,  umbilical cord blood is the main source of stem cells for children. These cells are identical to those found in the bone marrow. This makes them ideal for fighting diseases that can threaten the baby’s life.

Umbilical cord blood contains hundreds of cells. They can fight certain cancers such as leukemia, non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and multi myeloma.

These cells also have the ability to fight certain types of anemia, such as aplastic and Fanconi’s anemia. The cells can also fight other diseases such as Hunter syndrome, lupus and severe combined immunodeficiency. Researchers in Spain are studying the possibility of using it to fight blood cancer.

Cut the umbilical cord

Stem cells in the placenta and umbilical cord blood have the special property of immunological immaturity. As experts explain, this is often an advantage. This is because they are less likely to be dismissive of the recipient.

Another advantage of umbilical cord cells is that they are also more likely to be species with other members of their family. In addition, they can also ensure accurate compatibility with the baby’s cells.

The procedure for removing stem cells from the umbilical cord or placenta is painless. In many countries, there are ways to store these cells. They can then be used later to combat the health problems of the child or their family.

Aside from being rich in stem cells, which are given from the umbilical cord, British researchers have now discovered that the delay in cutting the umbilical cord for about three minutes can significantly improve your baby’s health.

In healthy newborns, one can wait three minutes before the string is cut. This is to increase iron levels and avoid the risk of anemia. Anemia is caused by a deficiency of this mineral. This is among the results of the study, as shown in the  British Medical Journal (BMJ).

Delay in cutting the umbilical cord should be part of standard care for newborns in pregnancies without complications. This is the  opinion of doctors Ola Andersson and Magnus Domellöf in a press release to BBC World.

This research, along with all the studies that have revealed the mysteries of this cord, shows how your baby’s umbilical cord is an asset that can improve their health and help their fellow human beings.
