Being aware of the importance of stories for learning is crucial to children’s growth. Creating a habit of reading at home  allows children to have empathy for what is happening around them and develop their imagination. That way, they can resolve various issues and conflicts.

Most are born with different types of creativity, and evolve in different ways.  Although all people have the ability to create, children’s creativity develops as they grow. This is a perfect time to start by encouraging learning stories.

Reading different stories every day can stimulate and promote creativity. Stories help develop cognitive skills that stimulate children’s brains to develop new skills. 

It is important that parents know the importance of stories for learning in children, as well as other benefits of reading.

1. Stimulation

Folk tales are a good way to get closer to different cultures. These are stories that are able to teach you about all the things that are in the world around you. It helps children open their minds to other worlds, by giving them stories and learning from other peoples.

Children love stories and often do not know that it is a very creative and effective way to learn. If you look back in time,  you can see that popular stories were very important  because they taught lessons about how to survive and integrate into society.

Neuroscience has taught us that the human brain is social. Therefore, children learn more easily when they interact with other people. Furthermore, it proved that metaphors in stories are perfect for creating new neurological connections in the brain. 

2. Promotes the imagination

Stories are ideal for helping children connect and interact. It helps them expand their imagination and creativity. 

It will not only enable them not to feel scared. In most cases, they will feel brave and able to cope with everything because they are inspired by their favorite characters from the stories.

It is best to tell stories at bedtime  because subconscious minds let the imagination flow naturally. As a rule, the first thing that people dream about is the last thing they thought about before going to bed.

Therefore, tell your children stories when it is bedtime. By doing so, you will actually help them learn while they sleep.

When you have finished reading, it is good to encourage children to do other creative activities. For example, they may come up with another story that has similar characters and their own plot.

Many people know that stories are important for learning. What they do not know is that stories help with logical and mathematical thinking because it helps them describe characters or animals.

It also allows them to put the scenes in order – knowing the beginning, the end, and the scenes in between. It helps them preserve the information and the story better.

The practical part is even better because  children learn after listening to the story. It allows them to become more expressive and creative. They can imitate animals, develop skills, draw or even solve problems, such as puzzles.

Sensitivity is very important for children. Therefore,  stories are an emotional tool to help increase emotions, in a positive way. In general, it is a social resource. Stories open different doors to learning, especially for coexistence and tolerance.

It is essential that parents know the importance of stories for learning in children, and can create a habit of reading. It will help children develop their skills much faster and they will know how to react in several situations.
