Couples Who Have A Fear Of Marriage
Fear of marriage is more common among couples than it may seem. Making all the preparations and planning a wedding can be stressful and overwhelming. Sometimes you may even feel like canceling it all because there are so many different things to be aware of.
In this article, however, we are not talking about this normal kind of fear that any engaged couple may have as their wedding date approaches. We want to talk about the fear of marriage that arises in some couples, for no apparent reason. It occurs just when they start thinking about it.
Although getting married in itself is nothing more than a legal obligation, what causes fear in many cases is that marriage involves a loyal obligation.
The impact on your surroundings
Quite often, the fear of marriage is influenced by social factors. In other words, you may be affected by the people around you and the fears they impose.
How often have you not heard anyone say; “Once you get married, your whole life will change” ? As if that were not enough, this phrase is often followed by; “And you will regret it.”
It’s just a way of affecting thoughts negatively in the engaged couple who may be beginning to fear that they will lose certain parts of their current life.
The most important thing is to avoid giving this kind of comments attention. There are couples who have decided to get divorced after marriage for several reasons. But there are many others who have discovered that their relationship has become stronger after getting married.
You should not think that everything will end badly, and not at all because of everything the people around you say. Getting married is often the cause of “jokes and laughter” among friends.
Fear of marriage: Gamophobia
This kind of fear of marriage in couples can manifest itself in the form of a phobia called gamophobia. Gamophobia is derived from two Greek words; the word gamos meaning marriage and the word phobos meaning fear or phobia.
When this fear manifests itself in the form of a phobia, it has to do with worry. Sometimes external help is needed to overcome it if it affects a person’s mental health.
Anxiety, obsession and impulsive actions are common symptoms that can be a result of this type of phobia.
The game of emotions in fear of marriage
Psychology and thoughts play a fundamental role in overcoming this fear. These two factors will be the ones we will return to when discussing the fear of marriage in relation to the emotions.
Current situation
First of all , the current conditions in your life play a role. For example, if you do not have financial or occupational stability, have a lease for an apartment, etc.
All of these factors can make you think that the other person does not want this type of life. Or maybe you think your life is such a “disaster” that you prefer not to share it with him or her.
You should realize and understand that if your partner is with you, then it is because he or she accepts any kind of instability you think you have in your life.
The most important thing for a couple is to talk together and clarify all issues from the beginning to avoid future problems.
Emotions
Second, emotions also come into play. It can be past situations that can hurt a person. There are several cases where a previous relationship has hurt someone. As a result, they are afraid to dedicate themselves again. They are afraid that they will suffer again in the same way.
This kind of fear is much more common than you might think. It can be the most common cause of fear of marriage. The solution, though perhaps in many cases more complicated, is not to think that a relationship will always end badly, but rather the opposite.
Often, life simply puts obstacles in our way so that we can truly appreciate what we have in the present.
