Being A Mother Is A Choice, Not An Obligation

No women should feel obligated to have children. Being a mother is a choice, not an obligation.

We all know that some women are not prepared for motherhood –  it can be due to natural or social barriers. There are also others who decide that being a mother is not for them.

This problem is controversial as there are very radical views on both sides. But first, we must  consider and respect the opinions and rights of all parties. 

Women are physiologically made to get pregnant, but this does not always coincide with a woman’s life goal or mentality. 

Being qualified to give birth does not mean that being a mother is an obligation, even though we have been pressured by society for many years.

It is very common for women to have conflicting thoughts about motherhood.

Happy mothers often do not understand why other women may not want to be mothers. On the other hand, those women who do not want to have children are sometimes not convinced that women with children are actually happy.

Motherhood becomes a barrier that prevents women from expressing different views. Defending women’s right to choose to be a mother or not makes us no less beloved to our own children.

Each person should be free to decide what they want to do with their own life and this should be generally accepted.

Unfortunately, women who have decided not to be mothers are not always fully respected for their decision. But every day this part grows bigger and bigger.

Today,  many women believe that the life they would live would not be the same with a child. Personal and professional interests are often the reason for this mindset. No one should be judged on this basis.

Without baby

An Argentine film came out in 2015, and it raised the issue of maternity leave from a critical point of view  (although that was not the purpose of the film). The film features Spanish actress Maribel Verdu, who at the age of 44 fully identified herself as the main character Vicky.

The film, titled  Sin Hijos (No kids),  raises an issue that is still controversial in Latin America. Therefore, the release was met with strong reactions.

The actress is one of the women who believes that being a mother is a choice rather than a commitment. She has defended her right to live her life as it suits her. Like many others, she is tired of being asked why she has not had children.

The film shows exactly that it is usually  other women who wonder how some can be over 40 and not want to become a mother. These women look at childless women with frustrations or “pity” for rejecting society’s norms.

Vicky, the main character in  No kids,  was radical in her position and  stated that of course there are many women with the same attitude but do not dare to stand up.

Some women think that simply by admitting that their children are the obstacle to their development in other ways, making them bad mothers or thus can be judged by others.

The message of the film is that we should respect the attitudes of others. Women without children do not have to despise mothers and vice versa. It is enough that society imposes on people decisions that we should be free from, as long as we do not harm others.

Being a mother can sometimes be a commitment

Women deserve the opportunity to think about what they want to do with their lives. However, this option is not always available.

If there was a focus on individual rights, many mothers could have redefined their lives by making other decisions.

The conditions for motherhood are not always the best,  and sometimes it is necessary to plan it.

We are committed to evaluating our particular situation in the best possible way and taking responsibility for our actions.

It is important that we take care of ourselves and think about the life we ​​want to give our children. If we make the decision correctly, we choose to be mothers at the right time, not because of social pressure.
